Gene Smith

Serving as President since 2009, Gene has led FV’s strategic growth both internally and externally, hiring top talent and leading the company to acquire businesses that would move the company’s footprint to a national level. He spearheaded the company’s acquisitions in 2011, 2015, and 2018, allowing FV to reach outside South Mississippi and South Louisiana and provide service to clients across 8 Southeastern States.

Gene earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Mississippi College and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. Before taking the reins at FV, he enjoyed a long and successful career as a college football coach at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Arkansas, Mississippi State University, and the University of Houston. He also coached in the National Football League’s World League for two years with the Birmingham Fire. Gene currently serves as a board member for the Mississippi Recycling Coalition and is a former board member of the University of Southern Mississippi’s Alumni Association.

Gene makes time with his family a priority outside of work and enjoys traveling and sports of all types.
